Body Lift in Tucson, AZ

Body lift surgery is a comprehensive procedure that restores shape and tone to the circumference of the midsection. This surgery trims excess skin, removes pockets of fat, and tightens the underlying tissues of the abdomen, hips, lower back, thighs, and butt.

Body Lift Surgery May Be Right for You if...

  • Significant weight fluctuations have left you with hanging skin on the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks.

  • Aging and sun damage is contributing to skin laxity.

  • You notice that your tissues have lost their elasticity and strength.

  • You have remaining pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise.

  • You are healthy and have no medical conditions that will impair your healing.

  • You do not smoke and are committed to a healthy lifestyle.

Body Lift Techniques

Skin Removal

  • Body lift surgery removes excess skin around the circumference of the midsection.

  • This reduces laxity on the abdomen, lower back, thighs, and buttocks.

  • An incision is made around the abdomen at the bikini line.

  • This procedure simultaneously restores a tightened appearance to the waist, groin, thighs, and buttocks.

Fat Removal

  • Body lift is not intended for the removal of fat.

  • Liposuction is often combined with a body lift to remove the pockets of fat that remain after weight loss.

    • Small incisions are made near the designated treatment area.

    • Unwanted fat is suctioned out with a vacuuming device.

Frequently Asked Questions

While complications with body lift surgery are rare, risks are present. These risks include:
  • Negative reactions to the anesthesia
  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Fluid accumulation
  • Numbness or changes in skin sensation
  • Blood clots
  • Persistent pain
  • Poor wound healing
  • Fat necrosis
You can minimize your chances of these by following all of Dr. Nelson’s recovery instructions. Please see a doctor if you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, or an unusual heartbeat.
The cost of your body lift will vary significantly depending on the specifications of your procedure. Additional factors include anesthesia fees, facility fees, medical tests, post-surgery garments and medications, and surgeon’s fees that consider the surgeon’s experience and skill in the treatment. You will be given an accurate cost estimate during your consultation once Dr. Nelson has a chance to examine and measure your body and discuss your goals for the procedure.
Body lift surgery is traditionally performed under general anesthesia to prevent any pain or discomfort during the procedure. Occasionally, local sedation with intravenous sedation is appropriate. You can discuss your anesthetic options with Dr. Nelson during your consultation.
Dressings and bandages are applied to the incisions, and a compression garment may be provided to reduce swelling, promote circulation, and speed up the healing process. Drains may also be placed following your surgery; however, this is not always necessary. Dr. Nelson will advise you on how to take care of your drains should that be necessary. You can expect swelling, bruising, and discomfort during your recovery, but oral pain medication will be prescribed to manage this. Most patients spend two to three weeks away from work and should avoid strenuous activity for four to six weeks.
The effects of your body lift begin to show soon after the procedure and continue to improve over the following weeks, months, and even years. Your results will be long lasting if they are maintained with a healthy lifestyle. Additional skin and tissue laxity are expected with age; however, your physique will still appear tighter and firmer than it would if you did not have the surgery. Scars will be present at the incision sites; however, these will fade with time.
A body lift tightens the circumference of the body around the waist, hips, thighs, and buttocks. Additional procedures like a breast lift or an arm lift can remove excess skin on the breasts or the upper arms.
