Erchonia® Low Level Laser Therapy
The Tucson Plastic Surgical office of Jeffrey M. Nelson MD FACS is internationally known for advancing the science of Erchonia Low Level Laser Therapy (L.L.L.T.) and Zerona laser therapy in cosmetic surgery. Dr. Nelson wrote the original manuscript for Erchonia medical on the use of Erchonia lasers for recovery from Plastic surgical cosmetic and reconstructive procedures. The Tucson Plastic Surgical office of Dr. Nelson has been asked to lecture on Erchonia laser treatments around the United States as well as in Canada and South Korea.
Low level laser therapy is used in our office to decrease postoperative pain, tissue swelling and hasten recovery.
Erchonia lasers and the Zerona fat removal laser fall under the broader heading of Low Level Laser Therapy (L.L.L.T.). These types of lasers are of very low energy and of specific wavelengths of light that improve tissue healing, cellular physiology, and surgical recovery. Erchonia's original FDA approval was for treating musculoskeletal pain and muscle recovery from injury. Many professional sports teams (football, basketball, hockey, baseball) as well as Lance Armstrong have used L.L.L.T. and Erchonia lasers to hasten recovery from Injury and improve muscle physiology. Erchonia also has a separate FDA approval for use in liposuction. Patients demonstrated more fat removal, less bruising, less pain, and quicker recoveries from liposuction procedures. This falls under the heading of laser-assisted liposuction. The Erchonia laser is a non-ablative laser so it doesn't cause injury or heating of tissues, but improves the tissues ability to recover following injury, and in fat cells generates a dumping of fat from the fat cells.
The Erchonia® Laser is a novel approach to tissue healing by using a very specific wavelength (635nm) of light at extremely low energy output (<5min) to improve cellular function, increase blood flow to tissues and decrease pain.
The Erchonia® has a separate FDA approval for use in liposuction, decreasing bruising, postoperative pain and shortening recovery time. Research in our own office has documented increased blood flow in operated tissues within minutes of Erchonia® Low Level Laser Therapy for recovery, improving healing potential and recovery from injury. Most all our patients have a series of treatments following plastic surgery to make their surgical recovery smoother.
