Sagging of the breast is called breast ptosis.  This may happen as part of the normal involution (loss) of breast tissue with age or may come following pregnancy or breast feeding.  Mild sagging may only need a breast implant.  (See Breast Augmentation page).

More severe skin laxity will require skin removal to tighten up the envelope of skin that supports the breast mound.  If the breast volume is to be increased, an implant is placed at the time of skin removal and breast contouring.  Breast lifting and augmentation, when done simultaneously, makes the procedure more complicated with more potential for cosmetic variability and requires a bit more finesse to get an ideal result.

While the main recovery is ten to fourteen days, the breast will continue to change as swelling resolves and tissues relax over several months.  Erchonia® Laser treatments can improve pain control and hasten healing.  (See Erchonia® page).
