Circumferential Body Lift

When a patient has significant skin laxity all around their torso a circumferential body lift is indicated. Typically this follows major weight loss surgery (bariatric surgery). Circumferential body lifts are a longer and more involved surgery than an abdominoplasty, but the circumferential body lift has the advantage if providing a lateral thigh lift and a buttock lift as part of the procedure. Liposuctioning various unwanted fat deposits is frequently a component of circumferential body lifts.

Typically, this procedure is performed by making an incision in the lower abdomen area. It extends around the entire torso – front to back – in order to target the circumference and produce an overall better contour. Excess fat and skin is removed as the underlying muscles are tightened in order to reduce the appearance of hanging, excess skin. Post-surgery, patients may need to wear a special compression garment to help the body adapt to its new contour. Although there will always be a scar present, your surgeon can place the incision in a discreet area that can be easily covered with most undergarments and bikinis.
